What shopfront metalwork can be resprayed?

Suitable aluminium shopfront frames, glazed entry door frames and associated metal trims can be resprayed onsite. The work suits retailers, commercial property owners and councils refreshing public-facing premises without automatically replacing the entire frontage.

We assess the existing coating, exposed edges and areas around handles before recommending a scope. Shopfronts can include different substrates and finishes within one opening. Identifying them matters because a uniform new colour still requires preparation suited to each surface. Glass, seals and moving hardware need protection rather than coating.

How is a shopfront respray carried out?

We clean and prepare the agreed aluminium surfaces, mask adjoining materials and apply a compatible liquid coating. Electrostatic spraying uses charged paint and is not the same process as factory powder coating.

Electrocoat uses Kremlin equipment for onsite electrostatic painting. The preparation plan addresses worn edges, contamination and any loose existing finish before colour is applied. Glass displays, signage, paving and adjacent tenancies are included in the protection discussion. We also check how doors will be managed while the work area is closed to customers.

How long will the shopfront work take?

The programme depends on frontage size, preparation, door quantities and the available working window. Product selection, temperature and site conditions affect drying and when coated areas can be used again.

A small entry and a long glazed retail frontage need different staging. We plan the sequence around access and agree any restrictions before work starts. If a door cannot safely return to use before the next opening period, that needs to be resolved in the programme rather than assumed away.

Can the shop keep trading during the work?

Out-of-hours work can be arranged so the shop keeps trading outside the agreed painting window. The programme needs to allow for preparation, coating and any restrictions before staff or customers return.

For shared centres or council premises, approvals may involve a centre manager, tenant or facilities contact. Delivery access, security, public paths and neighbouring businesses all affect the plan. Where a frontage is staged, we agree which entry remains available and how the public will be kept away from active work.

How long does a resprayed shopfront last?

Finish life depends on the existing substrate, preparation and exposure to weather and daily handling. Door pulls, lower rails and busy entry edges usually face different wear from sheltered upper framing.

Salt exposure, cleaning products and repeated contact can affect coating performance. We discuss care suitable for the chosen system and assess corrosion before painting. Regular maintenance helps identify damaged areas before they spread. There is no single lifespan suitable for every shopfront, and our written warranty terms are confirmed in your quote.

What drives the cost of shopfront respraying?

Frontage size, the number of doors, access and surface condition are the main cost factors. Detailed glazing bars, signage interfaces and complex masking can require more preparation than broad, clear sections of frame.

Out-of-hours requirements and staged attendance also affect the scope. Changing from a dark finish to a lighter colour may need more coats than refreshing the same colour. Send photographs showing the whole frontage and close-ups of damaged areas, together with opening hours, so the onsite quote can address how the business operates.

Is respraying better than replacing a shopfront?

Respraying can be a practical choice when the frame and door remain serviceable and the goal is a colour update. Replacement deserves consideration where the entry has structural damage, persistent faults or a redesign requirement.

Coating does not improve glazing performance, fix water entry or repair worn door hardware. Those issues should be assessed separately before the finish is renewed. For leased premises, confirm landlord or centre approval for the proposed colour. That helps avoid ordering a finish that does not meet the property’s agreed appearance requirements.

Preparation & application

How your respray comes together

01

Inspect the frontage

Review frame condition, proposed colour and entry operation with the property contact. Identify repairs or landlord approvals that need to be resolved before the painting scope can be confirmed.

02

Plan around opening hours

Agree the work window, customer exclusion area and delivery arrangements. Check when the entry must be available again and build the coating requirements into that programme rather than treating them as an afterthought.

03

Protect and refinish

Mask glass, seals and surrounding finishes, then prepare and coat the nominated metalwork. Review the result and provide care guidance before the frontage is returned to its agreed use.

Questions

Shopfront respray Sydney: your questions answered

Can you match our brand colour?

We can assess a supplied colour reference and discuss an appropriate finish. Brand artwork on a screen is not a reliable coating standard, so agree a physical reference or sample before proceeding.

Will the glass and seals be painted?

No. Glass, seals and other excluded materials are protected as part of the masking plan. Damaged seals or glazing concerns need separate attention rather than being concealed with paint.

Do the entry doors have to come off?

Suitable doors may be coated in place if access and protection allow. Any hardware repairs or removal requirements are assessed separately, with a plan for securing the premises during the work.

Can you organise work outside retail hours?

Yes, out-of-hours work can be discussed for the project. The final arrangement depends on site access, neighbouring occupants and the selected coating’s return-to-use requirements, which need agreement before booking.
