Window frame colours for aluminium windows
Pick a colour. See it on your windows.
Choosing a frame colour can change the character of a home without replacing sound aluminium windows. Electrocoat prepares and resprays suitable frames onsite, with colour selection considered alongside the facade, roof, exposure and finish.

On-screen colours are a guide. We'll show you real samples before we spray.

Five frame colours, explained

How do you choose a frame colour?
Start with the fixed colours around the windows: facade materials, roof, gutters, doors and visible metalwork. A frame can blend into a wall or create a deliberate outline around the glazing. Consider the whole elevation, not only a small swatch, because large areas and changing daylight affect how a shade reads.
Compare samples in sun and shade, against the building from outside and inside. Try colours in our colour studio on the homepage as an early visual guide. Screens and lighting vary, so treat on-screen colour as a starting point.
How should frames relate to the facade, roof and gutters?
A restrained palette connects frame colour to existing elements. Dark frames can echo a roof or outline pale brick and render. Light frames may sit quietly with pale cladding or masonry. Consider the full elevation, since trees, shadow and glass reflections influence the result.
Colorbond gutter and roof colours can be used descriptively when comparing the palette. Monument, Surfmist, Woodland Grey and Dune are useful reference names, but using a name here does not imply official affiliation or a guaranteed product match. We can discuss a visual relationship or work from a physical sample or Australian Standard shade.
Which colour works for coastal exposure and heat?
Consider orientation, direct sun and proximity to the coast before settling on a colour. Dark finishes absorb more solar heat than pale finishes, so check suitability against the window system and exposure rather than choosing on appearance alone. Coastal salt and airborne grime also make regular cleaning and inspection sensible for any frame colour.
The existing coating, aluminium condition and product system matter too. We assess the substrate before confirming a scope. Colour cannot correct corrosion, failed seals or an inoperable window.
What is the difference between matt, satin and gloss?
Matt reflects less light, satin has a moderate sheen and gloss is more reflective. Sheen changes how a colour looks beside glass, masonry and roofing, and can make surface texture or small variations more noticeable.
Choose sheen as part of the palette. Compare samples against the facade and consider cleaning expectations and the coating system. A sample is more useful than relying on a colour name alone.
What do the five featured frame colours look like?
Black creates a crisp, high-contrast outline and can repeat dark architectural details. It can feel bold against pale walls, so check the balance across all elevations. Monument is a deep charcoal reference that offers a softer alternative to true black while still defining the glazing.
Surfmist is a light neutral reference that can complement pale walls and roofs. Woodland Grey is a muted, darker green-grey reference that can relate to garden settings and subdued exterior palettes. Dune is a warm neutral reference that may sit comfortably with earthy masonry and softer exterior colours. Actual appearance shifts with light, sheen and surrounding materials; assess each option in context.
Can you match a colour beyond these options?
Yes, a broader colour can be considered from a physical sample or an Australian Standard shade, subject to the coating system and substrate. This can help when coordinating new frames with an existing door, trim or building palette.
A reference name or code guides selection, but the finished appearance depends on preparation, coating, sheen and light. Confirm the chosen shade and finish before work proceeds. Where exact visual continuity matters, review a sample in the setting where the frames will be seen.
How are frames prepared and resprayed onsite?
We inspect the frame finish and access, clean and prepare suitable surfaces, and protect glass, seals, walls and nearby fittings with careful masking. Electrostatic spray equipment is used to apply liquid coating where appropriate. Preparation and adhesion checks depend on the existing surface and condition.
The work plan also considers how windows will be accessed and handled. We discuss visible defects or repairs before coating, since paint does not fix damaged hardware, failed seals or operating problems.
Questions
Frame colours: your questions answered
Can you change my frame colour?
Often, if the aluminium and existing coating are suitable. We inspect condition and preparation requirements before confirming the proposed work.
Do windows need to be removed?
The work is generally planned onsite with frames in place. Access, design and condition determine the practical method.
Can you match a sample or Australian Standard shade?
We can discuss matching from a sample or Australian Standard shade, subject to the coating system. Confirm a sample in the relevant light because screens and surroundings affect appearance.
Can you coordinate frames with Colorbond gutters?
We can discuss descriptive visual coordination with Colorbond colour references. This does not represent official affiliation or guarantee an exact match.
Do you protect glass and seals?
Masking and protection are planned as part of the work. We assess seals and moving parts and discuss handling requirements for the selected system.
